We're often asked about the Parish Captain / Regional Leader roles.  Please see below for a detailed explanation:

The role of Parish Captain is critical to the success of the conference because it is the personal invitation that encourages men to attend such an event. Most of the men (75% plus) will attend the conference because someone personally invited them via phone, or most importantly a tap on the shoulder.

The individual should be willing to carry the cross of leadership, have a desire to help men grow in their faith, and be courageous enough to answer the call to “go out into the deep” and become a fisher of men.

Pre-requisites:
  • Practicing Catholic who is in communion with the Pope and Magisterium.
  • Committed prayer life, and frequent use of the sacraments.
Activities of Successful Parish Captains – Five P Approach
  1. Pray
  • Have I started praying for the men in my parish, the men attending the conference, and the men in leadership roles? Have I asked God to help me in my efforts? THIS IS VITAL TO YOUR SUCCESS.
  • Do I have the Men of Christ nine week novena/fast to St. Joseph on my calendar? Note: Copy of novena can be found on the Men of Christ website.
  1. Pastor
  • Have I asked my pastor to attend conference, and received a commitment from him to attend? Have I asked him to support our efforts?
  • Refer to the administration tool on “How to Approach a Pastor” if you have questions.
  • Did I sign him up online, and let my Regional Leader know that he is coming or not coming
  1. Promise
  • Have we committed to bringing “x” amount of men?
  • Have I spoke to my pastor about his ideas on how to make a commitment to bring “x” amount of men
  1. Plan & PR
  • Have I signed up on line?
  • Do I know how to use the admin tool?
  • Have I built a Parish Captain team?
  • Recruit champions. Start identifying other men in your parish who can support you in getting conference attendees. Recommendation is to have between three plus men on your team. NOTE: Utilize the administration tool for call scripts, and other resources.
  • Have I developed a plan of action?
  • Have I established goals and set priorities?
  • Have I created a time line for activity completion, and am I reviewing regularly?
  • Ideas
    • Setup table after Mass and personally invite men – MOST EFFECTIVE; Fathers bring their sons; Announcements after Mass; Appeal to the spouses and mothers; Bulletin inserts; Hang posters and flyers; Establish an e-mail chain within the parish; Promote through key groups (Bible Study, Men’s Club, Committees, School); Schedule an evening telephone blitz using Parish directory – 1 hour; Charter a bus or car pool.
  1. Passion
  • Am I excited and passionate about what we are doing?

Thank you,

Men of Christ Volunteers!

Praised be Jesus Christ!

We can’t even begin to express the gratitude in our hearts for the incredible amount of work you accomplished Saturday, April 30th.  Each one of you has proved to be a precious gift from God in sharing with us your gifts of time and talents.

In just a single day we have seen you install close to ½ mile of poultry fencing, repair leaks in the barn roof, remove manure piles, clean up brush on 20+ acres, trim trees on the fire lane, remove buckthorn and dead trees on Carmelite Road,  and do a huge amount of mowing.

We are praying to our dearest Lord to super-abundantly bless you and your dear families.  You will be sharing in the graces of our daily Masses, Divine Office, prayers and sacrifices.

Gratefully in Jesus,

Sister Mary Agnes and Sisters and Father Dennis Klemme

That Man is You! Icon

You are invited to attend a short 3 hour conference to discuss a relatively new Men’s Educational effort that the archdiocese is promoting. The program, That Man is You (TMIY) by Paradisus Dei will soon conclude its 6th year and has reached thousands of men at 190 parishes spread throughout 32 states and 60 dioceses.

This mini-conference will be reviewing the highly successful That Man is You (TMIY) program from two vantage points. First, is this the right program for you and your parish? Many men think so, which has lead to the rapid adoption of TMIY programs all over the US. We’ll review the TMIY program and show you how to easily implement this in your parish. The second way we will view the TMIY program is as a successful template. A lot of work went into the logistics and structure of TMIY to make it a first class program. The same steps can be used to implement a men’s group based on bible study, our Catholic faith, father/son programs, etc. We’ll provide you with these successful steps and additional resources to consider.

We hope and pray that after the February 19'th experience you are still rejoicing in God’s grace, and entering into a spiritual renewal during this Lenten season. The conversion stories are still coming in, with latest reinforcing the importance for each of us to reach out to our brothers, sometimes kicking and screaming, but guarantee at the end they will be eternally grateful.

I wanted to take a moment to thank you once again for all the work that you do with the Men of Christ.  If you are like me, I am sure that you wonder from time to time if we are doing enough, or if what we do is appreciated by those we are trying to reach.  In other words; are we making a difference?

In the case of the Men of Christ, I can assure you that souls are being saved through your efforts and the power of the Holy Spirit.  Last Thursday afternoon, my brother-in-law Joe died suddenly from an aortic dissection - (the tearing of the inner walls of the ascending aorta).  Joe died at St. Joseph's Hospital in Milwaukee before they could even get him into surgery.  We had just enough time to get a priest in to give him the Sacrament of Last Rites and to pray the Diving Mercy Chaplet over him as he lay in the ER.

Joe got away from his faith a bit as he hit middle age and stopped going to Mass.  In the spring of 2010 I bought tickets to the MOC Conference for my whole family; including tickets for Joe and his two sons, Chad and Dan.  He not only came to the conference but through some "urging" went to confession as well.  This spring I bought tickets for all of the boys again - 10 in all.  When I asked Joe if he wanted to come again this year, he wryly replied; "I can't."  When I asked him why not?; he responded, "Because I've got an appointment with God that day/"  Of course he came with his boys and once again went to confession -  almost three weeks to the day before he died.

Naturally, losing Joe is very tough on our family right now.  He was only 59 years old.  The wake service is tomorrow and the Mass and Christian Burial is on Wednesday.  I have been spending a lot of time with his boys, Chad and Dan, and I can tell you that their grief has been greatly abated by the comfort knowing that their father received the Sacrament of Reconciliation less than three weeks before being called by God.  Both boys have expressed this openly.  There is no doubt that the Men of Christ events were the catalysts in making this possible. Thank you for your tireless work and for being such an inspirational example of "living our faith".
